Facutly and Staff Lent Recollection

Teachers and staff of SFAS attended the Lent Recollection in Lady's Hill, Bago City last February 26, 2010. It was facilitated by Father Alan Rieger, OCD. Topic discussed was about fasting, abstinence, prayer and alms giving.

"The recollection was perfect for me because as we start the season of Lent, it reminded me of what I am supposed to do and follow as a Catholic. My faith was renewed especially thru the Sacrament of Reconciliation." (Mrs. Micmic Golez, administration)

1st and 2nd Graders Reach Out to Other Students

Grade 1 and 2 classes had their outreach in Adela Elementary School last February 15, 2010 with their advisers Mrs. Elena Coja (Grade 1) and Mrs. Leda Ibugan (Grade 2). Each class gave a presentation to entertain the pupils such as vocal solo, interpretative dance, modern dance, and poem interpretation.

Science Investigatory Projects

The fourth year class presented their Science Investigatory projects to the panelists Sir JR Abello, Sir Ariel Gabino and Mrs. Micmic Golez last February 23 and 24, 2010 as their long test for the 4th quarter.

Favorite projects or projects that the panelists were really impressed and got highest scores were the following: ST Buzzer, Mathematical Graphing Board, and the Improvised Spotlight. Other projects presented were SLOTS (Synthetic Logo of the St. Francis of Assisi School), Dessicated Coconut Pancake, Souvenir Guitar, the Lampshade, and Information Drive on Smoking Kills: (What the Tobacco Industry is Hiding about Cigarettes).

The Highest Number of Applicants So Far in the School's History

SFAS started accepting applicants for the new school year 2010-2011 with more than one hundred students applying in different grade / year levels. More than 30 applied in Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 1st year - that's already one class altogether! Applicants had to take an entrance test (except for Kindergarten) and those who pass will have to undergo a personal interview with the Guidance Counselor.

Those who didn't make it to the scheduled February test dates will be scheduled in March.

"Mag Exercise Tayo Tuwing Umaga"

Kindergarten students always have morning exercises to motivate them to learn in class, to enjoy themselves in stretching and to maintain physical fitness.

Clean Up! Clean Up! Everybody Do Your Share!

The parents, together with the students, faculty and staff, spent an entire Saturday last February 13, 2010 cleaning up the school campus in preparation for the La Salle Accreditation.

Speech and Personality Development for Teachers


Five teachers of SFAS attended a workshop on Speech and Personality Development for Teachers in Riverside College, Bacolod City last February 5, 2010. It was facilitated by Mrs. Jocelyn Garbanzos Justiniani.

"The seminar taught us some tongue twisters, the American accent on questioning and gave us types on how to tame our stress." (Mrs. Lina Gabino, English teacher)

"We were trained in many aspects like speech, how how to dress well and how to manage time." (Mrs. Rosemarie M. Iglesia, Math and Religion teacher)

Designing Classroom Instruction the UbD Way


Abiva Publishing House, Inc. conducted a one-day seminar-workshop entitled "Designing Classroom Instruction the UbD* Way" last January 30, 2010 at La Salle Integrated School, Bacolod City. SFAS teachers participated in this workshop such as Ms. Dina Almarquez (Math HS), Sir Leonard Guinabo (Math Elem), Ms. Liza Acuesa (Science Elem) and Ms. Josie Carlos-Bactong (Science HS).

Rotary Club of Bacolod-South Annual Academic Excellence Contest


The Rotary Club of Bacolod - South invited different schools to participate in their 35th Annual Academic Excellence Contest last January 30, 2010 held at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum. SFAS was one of the participants from the different schools that joined in this contest.

I liked the competition because the it was fair. (Claire Grijaldo, Grade 6)

We met different students from the different schools who gathered and participated in this annual quiz bee. (Juliza V. Rivera, 4th year)

A Lesson on Community Places


In connection to their lesson about community, the Prep class had a field trip last January 28, 2010 in the different community places in Silay City. They went to the market, church, park, police station, fire station, hospital and city hall with their adviser, Mrs. Resusa Berte.
