The 6th Catholic
Education Association of the Philippines (CEAP) Youth Congress was held last
August 1 and 2 at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City. And the six of us, namely Marlyn Bernasol and
Micah Ramirez from Grade 10 and Eleazar Sayon, Louis Spenzer Umali, Steve Louise Rotelo and myself from Grade 9, were sent to be the representatives of St. Francis of
Assisi School of Silay City among the 2,021 total delegates of the Youth
Congress.
The Youth Congress’ theme is
“Catholic Schools in the Year of the Poor” which promotes a positive attitude
of students towards poverty. The program
included a talk about Poverty which was relayed by Mr. Richard Pazcoguin and
Monsignor Meliton Oso, Director of Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center. They tackled on what the Bible says about
poverty, the issues of poverty, hunger and unemployment and the challenges to
the youth of today. Then a Eucharistic
Celebration was presided by Monsignor Ely Rafael Fuentes and Rev. Fr. Jose Gualberto Villasis gave the homily.
At the end of the program there
were dance animation, youth jam which played praise and worship songs and a
talent show which was participated by several schools. We learned many things about being poor in spirit and how to serve the poor.
